What does Poznań sound like? In August – like a guitar! The entire Greater Poland will resonate with sounds of strings pretty soon thanks to Akademia Gitary, the one and only guitar event of this size in Europe. During the festival we will experience the multitude of both music genres and guitar types.
Classical music, jazz, flamenco, and even alternative sounds will fill the most beautiful and charming places in Greater Poland. It has been like this for eight years now – the sounds of six strings have been reaching dozens of destinations, making the festival the only European event of this size and importance with the guitar in the forefront.
The opening concert of the festival is going to be a real treat – it will feature French accordion virtuoso Richard Galliano, outstanding classical guitarist Łukasz Kuropaczewski (the Festival’s Artistic Director) as well as the orchestra of Teatr Muzyczny conducted by Krzesimir Dębski. The Polish premiere of Aleksander Tansaman’s Petite Concerto will also take place during the opening on August 15 in Aula UAM in Poznań. The composition will have its (pre)premiere on August 14 in Cathedral Basilica in Gniezno.
Who will perform during the festival?
As usual, there will be eminent individuals from the world of music who represent the whole diversity of music genres: classical, but also flamenco, jazz, rock and blues. Among this year’s artists are Marek Napiórkowski, Atom String Quartet, Woch & Guzik Duo, Petrit Çeku, Adriano Del Sal, Krzysztof Meisinger, Tomasz Zawierucha, Duo Arpggione and Daniel Spaleniak. The world star of flamenco music – Gerardo Núñez will give a unique concert on August 22.
PURO takes great pleasure in being a partner in Akademia Gitary. On August 28, PURO Hotel will host a concert of a unique acoustic duo Riffertone already recognized by audiences and juries of a few significant music competitions in Poland. The entry is free, everyone is invited!
Akademia Gitary takes on an educational dimension as well. Master Class are an exceptional occasion for everyone to polish up their talent under the supervision of world-renowned, outstanding musicians and educators. You can now apply for classes that will take place between August 23 and 29 in Jarocin!
The festival’s main aim is to promote the guitar, and of all the activities devoted to reaching this aim the most important one will be the Guitar Happening in the Poznań Old Market. The Happening is the biggest event of the festival’s program as it attracts hundreds of guitar amateurs annually. Everyone can participate in this extraordinary event that will take place on August 30! All you need is a guitar, be it classical, electric or even a ukulele… and good intentions! This year’s song will be Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t worry, be happy.
Admission to the majority of festival events is free. Tickets for the Opening Concert and the concert of Gerardo Núñez are available on www.eBilet.pl, www.bilety24.pl and CIM (City Information Center) points.
