STRIPES: Daniel Buren updates iconic Le Corbusier architecture with a striped intervention at MaMo.

Last year, the perfect representation of the iconic architect Le Corbusier, the Cite Radieuse in Marseille, was transformed into a chic contemporary gallery. MaMo now presents an artist intervention every Summer, taking over the terrace and gymnasium areas of the building. 2014's offering sees Daniel Buren combine his signature style with the well known structure, in a bold yet respectful installation. Featuring a vast mirrored surface and trademark striped sculptural forms, there are also hints of primary colour, referencing the influence of Mondrian on Le Corbusier's work. Here the colours and stripes give a clean rich contrast to the blue Mediterranean skies, fitting crisply next to the gleaming mirrored surfaces that reflect the intriguing Le Corbusier facade. Bold and intriguing like PURO's identity, the works give off an effortless cool. A must-see before the end of September.
